Database Features You Should be Using
Database administrators are often lost when textbook approaches fail on real world databases. Drawing inspiration from problem solving techniques in Oracle databases, we will walk through examples that illustrate how to come up with creative solutions and solve real world problems with commonly under-utilized Oracle features.
Practical problem solving on databases involves more than just implementing the latest database version or feature. Intuition, domain knowledge, and reasonable approximations can mean the difference between successful database management and a catastrophic failure. We’ll dive into some best practices I’ve extracted from solving real world problems by implementing and leveraging commonly under-utilized Oracle features.
Paul Konves is a database administrator at Aetna in Phoenix, Arizona and has 28 years of work experience as an Oracle DBA with an expertise in infrastructure architecture, capacity planning & performance tuning of large environments.
